This year’s Shootout returned to the legendary Backdoor venue where teams fought through the night for the fastest course time and their shot at the $7,500 prize money. As one of the most popular events during KOH week, thousands of spectators rushed to line the sides of the venue to watch the epic crawl up the jagged rock faces.
“Backdoor is one of the most famous hills in California. It’s one of the most renowned on the KOH race course,” said Luke Wilson who finished runner-up to Randy Slawson in 2014. “It’s good-hearted rivalry. “
45 Racers competed this year and making his King of the Hammers debut at the age of 37 was Kyle Crouch who finished on top with new course record of 22.008 besting the previous record set in 2015 by Bobby Tanner by just fractions of a second. Speed isn’t the only thing that is rewarded here at the Shootout. Being able to put on a show is half the race as Guy Miller put on an epic showing of rock crawling to win the crowd favorite award.
